When first created in 1955, Phencyclidine (PCP) was used to as an anesthetic before being pulled off the market because of its harmful side effects, namely hallucinations. PCP is also known as angel dust and abuse of the drug started to take off in the 1960’s as an alternative to other popular psychoactive agents such as LSD or psilocybin mushrooms before settling into populous cities of the country. One of the most dangerous aspects of PCP abuse is the complete disconnect from reality that we experience when taking the drug, causing us to beleive that we have super powers or are living in another time period.
