The Dangers of DXM abuse

Signs and Symptoms of DXM Addiction

Be on the Lookout

Part of the misunderstanding of DXM abuse has to do with both its legal status and its common perception as a party drug. DXM—or Dextromethorphan—is one of the most commonly used cough suppressants currently on the market and is safe to use for most healthy people when taken at the recommended doses. In excess, however, DXM has the ability to induce pleasurable feelings and dissociative hallucinations similar to PCP or ketamine. This abuse and misuse of the drug is what eventually led us to addiction. Some of the most commonly experienced signs of DXM addiction are:

  • Excessive Nervousness
  • Drowsiness
  • Spikes of Aggression
  • Constipation or Diarrhea
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Jittering or Trembling
  • Paranoia
  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Body Rash and Itching
  • Feeling of Invincibility
  • Hallucinations

These conditions could be signs of a serious medical problem. If you or a loved one are experiencing these or any other symptoms, please contact your physician immediately and start getting the help you need.
