Perhaps the most difficult part about making the decision to stop using drugs and alcohol is acting on that decision. We often only come to this conclusion after dealing with tremendous hardships and struggles that have brought us to the point of desperation, where we have become tired of the lives we’re living and are ready to make a change.

Medication for Addiction Management

A Viable Recovery Resource

Once we have decided to turn our lives around, it can be difficult to know what to do next. The truth is that we all have very different needs for addiction management and recovery. Many people get their start in a treatment center, only to find that it is still too difficult to stay clean for long periods of time. In cases like this, it may be in your best interest to seek out medication for addiction management, some of the more common of which include:

  • Vivitrol
  • Naltrexone
  • Suboxone
  • Buprenorphrine

These are medications designed to help eliminate cravings for various drugs. These are especially helpful for those coming off of alcohol or opioids, the two classes of drugs which result in the highest rates of relapse. Ceasing substance abuse is an incredible start, but without assurance that it will result in a long-term recovery, we could be inadvertently setting ourselves up for failure.
